Order at a café in Spanish

Practise a short order and ask for the bill.

A simple order

Un café con leche, por favor. — ¿Algo más? — No, gracias. The first sentence orders a coffee with milk. Algo más asks whether you want anything else.

Make it your own

Replace un café con leche with un té or una botella de agua. Notice una with botella and un with café or té. To ask for the bill, say La cuenta, por favor.

Answer a follow-up question

¿Para tomar aquí o para llevar? means For here or to take away? Reply Para tomar aquí, por favor or Para llevar, por favor. If you want something without sugar, add sin azúcar. If an ingredient matters, ask what the drink contains instead of assuming every café prepares it the same way.

Try it

Order a bottle of water politely. Then decline anything else and ask for the bill.

Check your answer

Una botella de agua, por favor. No, gracias. La cuenta, por favor.
