Shop and ask prices in Spanish
Ask about prices, sizes and payment with practical Spanish shopping examples.
Ask about an item
¿Cuánto cuesta esta camiseta? — Cuesta veinte euros. How much is this T-shirt? — It costs twenty euros. Use cuesta for one item and cuestan for several: ¿Cuánto cuestan estos zapatos?
Size and colour
¿Tiene una talla más grande? asks for a larger size. ¿La tiene en azul? asks whether the shop has the T-shirt in blue. La refers back to the feminine word camiseta. For el abrigo, use ¿Lo tiene en azul?
Before paying
¿Puedo probármela? means Can I try it on? when referring to la camiseta. ¿Puedo pagar con tarjeta? asks whether you can pay by card. Keep the receipt and ask about the shop’s return conditions rather than assuming every purchase has the same rules.
Practise
Ask how much these shoes cost, then ask whether you can pay by card. Change ¿La tiene en azul? so that it refers to el abrigo.
Check your answer
¿Cuánto cuestan estos zapatos? ¿Puedo pagar con tarjeta? ¿Lo tiene en azul? Cuestan agrees with plural zapatos; lo refers to masculine abrigo.
